Salt Lake City, Utah—Ben McAdams for Congress Campaign Manager Andrew Roberts issued the following statement in response to false television attack ads airing in Utah:

“The Owens campaign and their D.C. allies have hit a new low. Apparently unwilling to discuss the merits of his support for resuming explosive nuclear weapons testing and eliminating protections for pre-existing conditions, they’ve resorted to simply making stuff up, in an onslaught of new TV ads. Ben’s record is clear and Utahns will see right through the deception,” said Roberts.

One ad by a Republican DC super PAC wrongly paints McAdams on Communist China, including misstating Ben’s work on the bipartisan, bicameral Congressional Executive Commission on China (CECC).

Another falsely claims Owens supports the Affordable Care Act’s protection for pre-existing conditions when for nearly a year, his website called for the ACA to be repealed.

As a CECC member Ben has participated in numerous hearings and panels focused on Chinese human rights abuses and other actions flouting international law. Contrary to the erroneous claims in the ad, McAdams attended all but two of the meetings for the CECC. His absence was due to his documented attendance at other congressional committees held at the same time.

CECC Chairman Jim McGovern said, “This is a false partisan attack that trivializes the seriousness of the challenges our country faces from the Chinese government. As Chair of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC), I would like to make it clear that Congressman Ben McAdams did indeed attend the CECC virtual hearing this week and he has attended most of our hearings for the last two years. More importantly, Ben McAdams has been a key member of the CECC and has played a pivotal role supporting bipartisan legislation that holds the Chinese government accountable for its human rights and religious freedom violations. Ben McAdams doesn’t just talk the talk about holding China accountable - he walks the walk. And he has done it by rolling up his sleeves and working across the aisle with Republicans and Democrats.”

From ethnic cleansing of the Uyghur people to ending democracy in Hong Kong, stealing territory in the South China Sea, and lying about the dangers of COVID-19, in Congress McAdams has gotten tough on the regime with numerous votes, including:

Voting for identifying Chinese Human Rights Abusers and imposing sanctions – supporting the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act Voting for the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act Voting to prohibit export of tear gas and other munitions to Hong Kong police Voting for the Hong Kong Autonomy Act Co-authoring a bipartisan, bicameral CECC Annual Report which details the Chinese government’s human rights and religious freedom violations
